Transition Bio is an innovative, early-stage biotechnology company, at the forefront of drug discovery using the emerging science of biomolecular condensates. Our platform combines droplet microfluidics, high-content imaging, chemical biology, and AI/ML to identify novel targets and therapeutics. We are a cross-disciplinary team transforming biological complexity into therapeutic opportunity.
Transition Bio is looking for an outstanding and highly motivated machine learning intern with a strong interest in image analysis and computer vision to support projects across our imaging and data science teams. The internship is expected to last 6 months; and will represent an excellent opportunity for students who recently graduated with a university degree or wanting to gain hands-on experience working with real-world biological image data in a fast-paced biotech environment.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support the development of ML models for droplet and cellular image analysis
- Assist in segmentation, object detection, and feature extraction from high-content microscopy data
- Pre-process and annotate large-scale imaging datasets via Python & Knime
- Collaborate with data scientists and lab biologists on cross-functional experiments
- Use tools like OpenCV, scikit-image, and PyTorch to build and test image pipelines
- Document findings and contribute to internal codebases
- Present findings at regular team and cross-department meetings
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, and/or appropriate industry experience
- Strong Python skills and familiarity with ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, scikit-learn)
- Experience using image processing or computer vision (e.g., OpenCV, CellProfiler, ImageJ)
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for applying AI to real-world biology
- Clear communication and a collaborative mindset
Desired Experience:
- Experience in processing biomedical imaging data
- Familiarity with tools like Jupyter, Git, Docker, or AWS
- Interest in droplet microfluidics, cell biology, or chemical screening
This is an on-site internship, based in Cambridge UK.
Applicants are required to provide the following evidence and information before interview:
- notify us of any reasonable adjustments in order to attend an interview.
- have permission to work in the UK from the start of the internship.
