Position Overview

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is a global investment management firm with over a trillion dollars in assets under management, trusted by investors worldwide to help them navigate changing market environments and achieve their long-term goals.

As part of our ongoing commitment to operational excellence and data-driven decision-making, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Analytics Specialist to join our Asset Management team. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in data science, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), and a strong understanding of investment management processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain advanced analytics models using data science and AI/ML techniques to support portfolio management, investment operations, distribution and risk assessment.

  • Collaborate with investment professionals to identify analytical opportunities, translate business requirements into solutions, and communicate insights to stakeholders.

  • Analyze large and complex financial datasets to extract actionable insights and drive evidence-based recommendations.

  • Build, validate, and optimize predictive models for driving growth, risk management, and operational efficiency.

  • Shepard the AI/ML models through various validation and governance committees.

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends in AI/ML, data engineering, and investment analytics, and proactively recommend innovative approaches to enhance the firm's analytical capabilities.

  • Partner with IT and Data Engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines, data integrity, and scalable analytics infrastructure.

  • Present complex analytical findings in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management.

  • Mentor and guide junior analytics team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Necessary Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or a closely related field

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience applying advanced data science and AI/ML techniques within asset management or investment management environments.

  • Strong understanding of portfolio management, asset allocation, and risk assessment practices, with a proven ability to translate investment concepts into analytical models.

  • Proficiency in programming languages and analytics tools such as Python, R, SQL, and modern machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)

  • Hands on skills on platforms such as Azure, Snowflake, Databricks and Power BI

  • Experience working with large, complex financial datasets and leveraging data engineering best practices to ensure data quality and scalability.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in AI/ML, data engineering, and investment analytics.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management.

  • Leadership experience mentoring analytics professionals and fostering a collaborative, innovative team environment.

Salary Range:

$137,400 - 233,600 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
