Job Description

We are seeking an Artificial Intelligence Integration Specialist who will advance efforts to implement new AI Tools within the Work Planning and Control Program. In this role you will contribute to the development of procedures that will ensure cross-organizational alignment in planning processes, ensuring work at the Laboratory is properly scoped, ES&H requirements are properly flowed down into work order packages, and workers understand the tasks, hazards, and controls for the work they are going to perform. You will ensure the procedures, processes, software tools and training are in place to enable work to occur in an efficient and complaint manner. In this role, you will serve as a member of the Work Planning and Control (WP&C) Functional Area Office team within the Work Planning and Control Office which is part of the Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) Directorate.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. 

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will 

  • Develop work control-related requirements, processes, and procedures into institutional work processes; prioritize the requirements and processes based upon Institutional impact and apply project management principles to create and execute projects that implement the strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of processes, procedures, and training to enable the integration of WP&C requirements for stakeholder organizations.
  • Partner with stakeholder organizations in multiple advisory and working group committees to resolve technical and organization barriers with a focus on enabling AI-driven enhancements and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in standing Stakeholder Advisory Groups, Work Groups, and other necessary forums, and serve as the liaison between WP&C and partnering organizations.
  • Manage and facilitate the periodic update of user guides, supplemental procedures, and other job aides to ensure effective adoption of tools, including AI-enabled solutions.
  • Train and mentor Laboratory staff members to ensure work control requirements and adoption of new technologies.
  • Collaborate with the WP&C Office Team in the modification of related institutional requirements, processes, and governance documents incorporating AI-enabled capabilities where appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.3 level

  • Lead the development of requirements for AI Tools, which would allow for the optimization of resources, operational priorities, and stakeholder equity.
  • Drive the development of metrics to inform the success of utilizing AI Tools in place of conventional approaches.
  • Develop strategies to optimize WP&C resources to allow for emergent customer needs.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, ES&H or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Broad experience with work planning and scheduling and/or facility management, in addition to experience with craft work, training material development, or work order processing.
  • Experience evaluating, implementing, or integrating AI/ML or data-driven tools into operational workflows, business processes, or decision-making environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and work scheduling theories and practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver results in a complex environment, while working effectively both independently and collaboratively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Computer Maintenance Management System work management modules.
  • Proficient in project facilitation and communication, with the ability to guide multi-disciplinary teams, resolve differing opinions, and clearly present technical or operational information in a collaborative environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional qualifications at the TSS.3 level 

  • Significant experience working as a program manager, work manager, scheduler, project manager, and/or operational experience supporting complex science, R&D, nuclear, or explosives work.
  • Experience leading change or implementing new business processes that requires in-depth analysis and frequent use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Significant experience using AI or data tools to improve processes and solve every day work challenges.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Knowledge of technical work with extensive nuclear and/or explosive safety/safety basis requirements.
  • Experience applying various Human Performance Improvement tools for both individuals and work teams, (e.g., procedure use and adherence).

Pay Range: $129,150- $196,476

$129,150 - $163,764 Annually for the TSS.2 level
$154,950 - $196,476 Annually for the TSS.3 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
